I watched it and agree somewhat with the review. I will give it a couple more shows before ditching it.

Dang, we downloaded it but haven't watched it yet. That's too bad, I was hoping it would be good... despite starring Pacey. (That's Joshua Jackson's character on Dawson's Creek... and now you know what a frickin nerd I am) Maybe now that I am expecting it to be crap, though, I will be pleasantly surprised?

I was actually kind of surprised by this review. I can't argue with the logic of failing by comparison, because Fringe certainly is no X-Files, but I didn't find it nearly as bland or off-putting as MrHattyHat did. I thought the portrayal of Dr. Bishop was clearly the highlight, as I mentioned before, and maybe he's the reason I liked it as well as I did. I think it's very hard to pull of crazy, and crazy genius is even harder, but I thought John Noble did it exceptionally well. That's probably more a credit to him than to the show, but all the same, I found myself very intrigued by his scenes.

Otherwise, I agree with a lot of the points made. I really didn't care for the location statements in each scene, integrated into the scenery, and I thought it came off a bit lackluster, reaching for gross-out in place of actually atmospheric and creepy, which the X-Files pulled off usually so well. I don't expect it ever to crack my "favorite shows" list, but I didn't feel compelled to abandon the pilot.

I should also mention, as is my philosphy on movies, I watch shows to be entertained, and to visit another world or another person's life for a time. I thought Fringe was interesting enough to watch for a couple more episodes at least, although I agree that it's not the most original or most innovative show on TV.

I did not watch Fringe. The commercials made it look too scary. I am more of a HGTV or TLC kinda girl. I LOVE the Office and can't wait for the new season.
